I AM WOMAN
Writer/Director Anna Elizabeth James sits for photographs exploring the roles of motherhood and femininity as performed by contemporary American women. I am particularly interested in the conflict between the self--personal ambitions, desires, and dreams--and the social expectations of feminine behavoir, particularly self-sacrifice, consumerism, and dependence upon external approval. My photographs dance in the blurred line between the personal desire and socially imposed expectations to achieve a mythological perfection as wife, mother, and woman. (35mm and Medium-format film, Kodak 160VC)
