Every artist needs an advocate. Really, every human needs an advocate. At least one.
There is a lot of talk these days about inclusion in the entertainment industry. The conversation about the problematic representation of women and people of color in U.S. mass media is happening. The need for more varied voices is clear.
This organization, the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts (NHFA), is one that truly advocates for artists it believes in. Over years, and decades, its head Felix Sanchez and co-founders Jimmy Smitts, Esai Morales, and Sonia Braga, continue to create opportunities for young artists, filmmakers, and journalists. For their perseverance and passion and for the opportunities they create for us, I cannot thank them enough.
